Wham! song ‘Last Christmas’ reaches top spot on UK Christmas chart

It seems the Christmas chart is an actual factor in the UK – not one thing made up for the basic movie “Love Actually” – and a sure beloved band has topped it this 12 months with considered one of their hottest hits.

“Final Christmas” by Wham! – the duo fashioned by George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley – has been named the highest track on the Official Charts Christmas checklist by BBC Radio 1.

In a social media post shared each by the Wham! official account in addition to that of Official Charts on Friday, Ridgeley was seen reacting to the information, saying in a video, “George could be beside himself, in spite of everything these years, to lastly attain the Christmas no. 1 (spot).”

Ridgeley went on to say it felt like a “mission completed,” including that Michael wrote the track with the intention of it reaching the milestone.

The love for Wham! and “Final Christmas” has been palpable this 12 months.

Earlier this week, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney of “Welcome to Wrexham” spoofed the band and particularly the album picture from “Final Christmas” on Instagram.

The photograph was in black and white and framed equally to the duvet photograph for the hit vacation single, with Reynolds sporting the floppy blond hair made well-known by Michael.

“WREXHAM!” the caption on the photograph McElhenney posted on his Instagram account learn.

“Final Christmas” was originlly launched by Wham! in December of 1984. On the time, it spent 5 consecutive weeks on the quantity two spot on the UK Singles Chart.

The track has since been lined by many artists, together with Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Jimmy Eat World and the Backstreet Boys.

Ridgeley is the surviving member of Wham!, after Michael died on Christmas day virtually seven years in the past, in 2016.
