Royal Caribbean is suspending cruise ship ports of name in Labadee, on the northern coast of Haiti, as violence escalates within the Caribbean nation.
“The protection and safety of our visitors, crew, and communities we go to are our high precedence. Our World Safety and Intel Crew is carefully monitoring the evolving state of affairs in Haiti, and in an abundance of warning, we’re briefly making changes to sailings visiting Labadee,” Royal Caribbean stated in an announcement to CNN.
“We’ll proceed to observe and reassess calls as wanted, and can talk updates with visitors instantly.”
The cruise line operates a personal port in Labadee, which is about 130 miles (210 kilometers) from Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince.
The capital has been engulfed in gang violence since early March, and the nation is in political crisis.
Royal Caribbean’s port is situated on a peninsula in northern Haiti and is accessibly solely to Royal Caribbean Group visitors and staff. The positioning, which has personal safety, features a day-use resort with 5 seashores, a zipper line and different recreation.
The cruise line has been working in Labadee because the Nineteen Eighties.
