Korean Air, Cathay Pacific planes collide at Japan airport in wintry weather

A Korean Air airplane clipped wings with a Cathay Pacific jet at an airport in Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido on Tuesday amid heavy snow – an incident that comes simply weeks after a deadly plane collision in Tokyo.

No accidents have been reported within the collision at Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport (CTS), which occurred round 5:30 p.m., in line with the airport operator. The Korean Air jet had 289 passengers and crew on board, the Chitose Fireplace Division advised CNN, whereas the Cathay Pacific airplane was empty.

Airport issues of safety have been underneath scrutiny in Japan following a fatal collision at Tokyo’s busy Haneda airport on January 2 when a Japan Airways jet burst into flames after hitting a coast guard airplane.

Cathay flight 583 from Sapporo to Hong Kong was canceled, with the Hong Kong-based service saying passengers could be picked up by extra flights later within the day and on the next day. There are two flights flying the identical route on Wednesday.
