Home Republicans on Sunday launched two articles of impeachment towards Division of Homeland Safety Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, laying out their allegations that the cupboard secretary dedicated “excessive crimes and misdemeanors” forward of a committee vote later this week.
The primary article costs Mayorkas with “willful and systemic refusal to adjust to the regulation” and Home Republicans allege within the second article that Mayorkas has “breached the general public belief” by allegedly making “false statements.”
The Homeland Safety Committee will meet Tuesday to mark up the articles.
The highest Democrat on the committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson, pushed again towards the unveiled articles and accused the Home GOP of “abusing” its impeachment energy.
“What’s obviously lacking from these articles is any actual cost or perhaps a shred of proof of excessive crimes or misdemeanors – the Constitutional normal for impeachment. That ought to come as no shock as a result of Republicans’ so-called ‘investigation’ of Secretary Mayorkas has been a remarkably fact-free affair,” Thompson mentioned in a press release.
The Division of Homeland Safety equally blasted Home Republicans over the articles, calling the upcoming committee vote a “farce” and a “distraction from different very important nationwide safety priorities.”
This can be a breaking story and will likely be up to date.
