“A Christmas Story” star Peter Billingsley is making a fairly good case on the long-standing debate about whether or not or not “Die Onerous” is a Christmas film.
The truth is, his argument was so good that he managed to persuade “Die Onerous” cinematographer Jan de Bont – who was additionally a skeptic on the matter – that the Bruce Willis-led motion film is a vacation basic regardless of its mid-summer launch date.
“Can we’ve got a wholesome debate? Can we make the argument to you of why it’s a Christmas film?” Billingsley proposed to de Bont on a latest episode of his podcast “A Cinematic Christmas Journey.”
Billingsley begins off by saying the movie is bookended by two key holiday-centric songs. Run DMC’s “Christmas in Hollis” opens the movie, which Billingsley labels “an incredible Christmas music,” and the end-credits music is “Let it Snow!” by Vaughn Monroe, a Christmas basic.
He goes on to argue that “manufacturing design put Santas in every single place,” and that the movie’s central location is at a Christmas social gathering. And naturally, there’s the scene that Billingsley describes because the “iconic ‘ho ho ho’ second” the place Willis’s John McClane “decorates the lifeless physique and places it into an elevator.”
“However I’ll depart you with this,” Billingsley instructed de Bont. “Most significantly, I believe it embodies the themes of Christmas of acceptance, forgiveness, love and household.”
With a nod of approval, de Bont smiles and says, “Okay, I’m bought now.”
In a clip posted to Billingsley’s Instagram, he and his co-host Steve Byrne are seen laughing and rejoicing as de Bont accepts their argument.
Starring Willis, Bonnie Bedelia and the late Alan Rickman, “Die Onerous” first premiered in July 1988 and follows a New York Metropolis Policeman who, on Christmas eve, makes an attempt to save lots of hostages taken captive by a terrorist group at a vacation social gathering.
Willis, nonetheless, has a unique thought of what sort of film “Die Onerous” is.
